About Protelica

Protelica is a privately held, early stage biotherapeutic company focused on the discovery and development of optimized protein therapeutics. Protelica’s core technology platforms have been developed and optimized since 2002 by our predecessor company, Bioren, Inc. Upon the acquisition of Bioren by Pfizer in 2005, exclusive rights to these technologies were granted to Pfizer, restricted solely to the field of antibody. Protelica, Inc. has acquired the exclusive commercial rights for all proteins other than antibodies.

Protelica applies these proven mutagenesis technologies to discover protein therapeutics such as hormones, cytokines, enzymes, etc. The technologies utilize a chemistry-based, rational approach to library construction, enabling an optimized search for desired mutants in libraries that have sufficient diversity, yet are still manageable in size. This feature provides the basis for a distinct competitive advantage over other mutagenesis technologies, making it possible for Protelica to rapidly establish a highly competitive position.

Dr. Roberto Crea, President and CEO of Protelica, is the inventor of our patented Look Through Mutagenesis™ and Walk Through Mutagenesis™ technologies. As one of the founding scientists of Genentech, Dr. Crea headed the DNA chemistry department that enabled Genentech to commercialize its first biotechnology products. A serial entrepreneur, Dr. Crea has founded several cutting-edge biotechnology companies, including Creative BioMolecules (Curis), Creagen (Neurex/Elan), SynGen, CreAgri and Bioren, Inc., acquired in 2005 by Pfizer.

Protelica is located in Hayward, California, and occupies approximately 12,500 square feet of office and laboratory space, fully equipped for molecular biology, protein chemistry, cell biology and bioinformatics.
